Haiti 2 Years Later - SOS Children's Villages

Two years after the devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010, the intense efforts of SOS Children's Villages to help in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Haiti are showing significant results, especially in the area of education and in regard to the transition from emergency aid to long-term focused support for vulnerable children and families. However, achieving lasting positive changes in the lives of thousands of children will take patience and commitment.

SOS Children’s Villages - Saving Lives in the Horn of Africa

Since our Emergency Relief Program got underway across the Horn of Africa July 2011, SOS Children's Villages has helped save lives and improve living conditions for in excess of 70,000 of the worst-affected victims of famine, through the provision of medical services, food, water and other essential supplies.

In Badbado, the psychological welfare of children is being addressed by the creation of child friendly spaces. Here, the trauma of the past is put aside as children are nurtured in an atmosphere where their fun and play provides everyone with reason to be optimistic.

SOS Children’s Village Addis Abeba, Ethiopia

For over 60 years, SOS Children’s Villages have been providing loving homes for orphaned and abandoned children. In every SOS Village in 132 countries, children grow up in a family living in close proximity to other SOS families (The Village), each headed by an SOS Mother. The children receive everything they need to reach their full potential in life.

The SOS Children's Village Addis Abeba was opened in 1981 in Addis Abeba, the capital of Ethiopia. In this video (the first part of a four part series), an SOS mother and two SOS children share their feelings about Village life.

SOS Children's Villages Tribute to Mothers!

At the heart of each SOS family is the SOS Mother who dedicates her life to raising a generation of orphaned and abandoned children as if they were her own. Worldwide, there are more than 5,250 SOS Mothers who care for 80,000 children in over 500 SOS Children's Villages. They live with their children, care for their children, comfort their children and celebrate with their children. They do all the things a mother would do. Give the gift of love to recognize your mother, father, or "other mother," as well as the SOS Mothers who care for children in need around the world.
